Port Marketing: Modern & Innovative Know-how for Sea Ports in a Competitive Market

 

Eng. Ahmed Abou Basha, PTI Director, has attended a jointly organized program between the World Maritime University (WMU), Port of Hamburg – Marketing ASS. and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT). The Seminar was entitled Modern & Innovative Know - how for Sea Ports in a Competitive Market. The Seminar was organized by the International Transport & Logistics Institute, Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Sheraton Montazah hotel, Alexandria.

Trainmar Regional Coordinators’ Meeting

 

PTI hosted the annual Trainmar Regional Coordinators’ Meeting. Representatives from four Traimnar centers (Sri Lanka, Nepal, Malaysia& Egypt) and one representative from the Trainmar Central Support Team were present. The representatives discussed network issues and future course deliveries. It was agreed that the next regional meeting will be held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Port of Koper – Slovenia Visit to PTI

 

Ms. Milena Jerman, Project Manager in Port of Koper, Slovenia has visited PTI. The aim of the visit was to discuss cooperation between PTI & Port of Koper as well as cooperation between PTI & the Maritime Faculty in Slovenia.

“Port Management & the Maritime Sector” course in Russian Language

 

PTI held a course on “Port Management & the Maritime Sector” in Alexandria for senior personnel from Ports of Georgia. The course included visits to the Egyptian ports, in addition to visits to the regional Center for International Trade Arbitration at Cairo & the National Navigation Co., SUMED for Petroleum Pipeline Co. and the Data Bank in the Ministry of Transport in Alexandria. The number of attendees was 11 Georgians.

The 17th International Conference on:

“Ports in the Middle East to ‘e or not to e’ ”

 

PTI held its 17th International Port Conference on “Ports in the Middle East ‘to e or not to e’ ”. The conference was held in Port Said, Egypt from 4 – 6 February, 2001. The conference program included site visit to East Port Said Port (under construction). 19 papers were presented in the conference.

Mrs. Iman El Ghorab, PTI Head of Human Resources Section, attended the TRAINMAR Course on Flexible Learning Methods in APEC Antwerp, Belgium.

E-commerce –  Strategies for Success

 

Ms. Iman El Ghorab, PTI Head of Human Resources Section, has attended a course on “E-commerce – Strategies for Success”. The course was held by the American University in Cairo (AUC) – Institute of Management Development in collaboration with the International Center for Etudes.

“Interaction of State Control Bodies (Customs and Port Authorities) with Non-State Enterprises within Seaports Infrastructure Activities” course in Russian Language

 

PTI conducted a course on “Interaction of State Control Bodies (Customs and Port Authorities) with Non-State Enterprises within Seaports Infrastructure Activities”. The course was held by PTI for Maritime Transport Sector senior personnel from Ukraine. The course included site visits to Alexandria and El Dekheila ports, Alexandria Container Terminal Co., Damietta port, Port Said port, new East of Port Said port (under construction), Suez Canal Port Authority, Adabeya Port and El Ein El Sukhna Port (under construction). The number of attendees was 7 Ukrainians and 3 Egyptians from PTI staff members.

UNCTAD & ATAS visit to PTI

 

Mrs. Kathryn Everlet of the UNCTAD TrainMar Central Support Team, and Mr. Rodrigo Garcia-Bernal Executive Manager of ATAS (TrainMar Association of South America) have visited PTI and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT). The purpose of this mission was twofold:

-     To visit Port Training Institute (PTI) as a TrainMar Center

-     To plan the design and program of the transformation of the TrainMar ATAS course on Environmental Management of Ports into interactive CD ROM training. The actual activities and responsibilities of the production were decided in the meetings with those in charge.

Mrs. Everlet, Eng. Ahmed Abou Basha and Mr. Gracia are examining possibilities of increasing cooperation in the field of training within the global Trainmar network.

Eng. Eman Hussein, Head PTI Head of Computer & Information Systems Section, attended a Presentation Skills Workshop. The workshop was held in Cairo, by the European Management Center (EMC).

PTI held a workshop on Preparing a Unified Model to Evaluate the Annual Performance of the Subsidiary Companies of the Maritime & Inland Transport Holding Company. The workshop was held in Mahrousa Hotel, Alexandria.

The 22nd Periodical Meeting for the Arab Ports Federation Board

 

Dr. Raafat Gouda, PTI Training & Education Department Manager, attended the 22nd Periodical Meeting for the Arab Ports Federation Board at the General Secretary of the Arab league in Cairo. The meeting was held by Arab Ports Federation.

Eng. Ahmed Abou Basha, PTI Director, attended TRAINMARSAP (TRAINMAR Strategic Action Plan) Workshop in Eschborn, Germany, where the task force members discussed the challenging future of TRAINMAR.

Sudanese Port Authorities visit to PTI

 

Mr. Abd El Magid Haboub, Training Department Director, and Mr. Galal El Din Shelieh, Research and Planning Department Director, in Sudanese Port Authorities have visited PTI to discuss the annual training schedule of Training Programs with PTI, for 2000-2001.

Kuwaiti Sheikh visit to PTI

 

His Highness, Kuwaiti Sheikh Sabbah Al Gaber Al Sabbah Al Aly Al Sabbah, Director General of Kuwait Port Authority has visited PTI in the program of his visit to the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport. He visited PTI and was impressed with PTI facilities including the simulator and labs and invited the Arab world to benefit from such facilities.

Minister of Communication and Transport of Zambia visit to PTI

 

H.E. Professor Nkandu Luo, the Minister of Communication and Transport of Zambia visited PTI. In her statement, she stated that she was impressed with the facilities and the depth of training carried out at PTI and added that trainees are exposed to some of the most modern technology and state of the art training. Finally, she hoped that her country could collaborate with PTI.

Dr. Raafat Gouda, PTI Training & Education Department Manager, attended the Second Seminar on Port Marketing, entitled “Modern and Practical Knowledge for Ports in a Competitive Environment”. The seminar was held in Malmo, Sweden by The World Maritime University in collaboration with Port of Hamburg.

Eng. Eman Hussein, PTI Head of Computer & Information Systems Section and Ms. Noha Asfour, PTI Librarian & in charge of the Internet have attended a seminar in the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport – Miami Site, on the “Internet and Video Conferencing and their aid in Distance Learning”.

PTI held a workshop for Senior Management on “The Organizational and Financial Restructure of the Maritime Transport Companies” in Alexandria. The objective of the workshop was to review the general economic activity atmosphere and to hold discussions to come up with the best possible strategy in order to enable companies to perform their mission in the next stage. Among the objectives was emphasizing the importance of training in organizational and financial restructure
